FEDERAL SIGNAL PATHFINDER

Chevrolet Tahoe PPV Headlight / Tail Light Relay Diagram

12V SPDT (5-Pin) Changeover Relay Federal Signal Pathfinder Smart Siren Headlight / Tail Light Control

This relay diagram is used to switch a Chevrolet Tahoe PPV headlight or taillight circuit from the normal factory BCM/lighting circuit to the Federal Signal Pathfinder flash output when activated. It is intended for applications where the Pathfinder smart siren controls warning-light flash behavior through a 5-pin SPDT relay.

Terminal Function Summary

TerminalFunction
86Relay on from Pathfinder (12V output)
85Ground
87Pathfinder flash output (to lights)
87aBCM side or HL/TL side (normally connected)
30HL or TL side (from vehicle)

How It Works

  • When the Pathfinder sends 12V to terminal 86, the relay coil is energized.
  • Terminal 30 (vehicle headlight or taillight feed) switches from 87a, the normal circuit path, to 87, the Pathfinder flash output.
  • This allows the Federal Signal Pathfinder smart siren to send the flash signal to the selected light circuit.

Application

  • Chevrolet Tahoe PPV
  • Headlight flasher
  • Taillight flasher

Installation Notes

  • Use a quality 12V SPDT relay; 30/40A is commonly recommended.
  • Ensure all grounds are secure and properly terminated.
  • Verify each connection with a multimeter or test light before finalizing the installation.
  • Confirm the exact vehicle lighting circuit and Pathfinder output behavior before use.
This reference is intended for Tahoe applications using a Federal Signal Pathfinder smart siren to control headlight or taillight flash functions. Always verify model-year circuit behavior and equipment compatibility before installation.
RELAY / K9 INTEGRATION

Chevrolet Tahoe K9 Unit Lock Relay Diagram

12V 5-Pin Relay Door Lock Trigger Chevrolet Tahoe PPV

This relay configuration is designed to interface a K9 unit lock trigger with the Chevrolet Tahoe door lock system. In normal operation, the lock motor remains connected to the BCM through terminal 87a. When the K9 unit sends a trigger to terminal 85, the relay energizes and switches terminal 30 from 87a to 87, grounding the lock motor circuit and activating the lock function.

Relay De-Energized — Normal Operation

With the relay coil de-energized, terminal 30 remains connected to terminal 87a. This keeps the lock motor wire connected to the BCM so the factory door-lock system continues to operate normally.

Relay Energized — K9 Lock Trigger Active

When the K9 unit applies a trigger to terminal 85, the relay coil energizes. The contact switches from 87a to 87, disconnecting the BCM lock circuit and connecting terminal 30 to ground through terminal 87. This activates the lock motor circuit.

Installation Notes

  • Verify the correct lock motor and BCM lock circuits for the exact model year before making final connections.
  • Confirm that the K9 controller output is compatible with the relay trigger arrangement.
  • Use automotive-grade wiring, terminals, protection and insulation.
  • Function-test both the K9-triggered lock command and normal factory lock operation before final reassembly.
Technical references should be verified against current OEM and equipment-manufacturer documentation before installation. Model-year differences may change circuit locations, colors or behavior.

Fail-Safe & Verification Notes

Any K9 door, lock, release or heat-alarm modification should be tested for normal factory operation, K9 controller operation, loss-of-power behavior and unintended activation before the vehicle is returned to service.
